I'd say it's comparable to Starcraft 2 Heart of the swarm/WOL average match length.
AoE4 matches do take a bit longer on average but not that much longer. Heck, the longest ever starcarft 2 competitive match lasted 3 hours. Questionable complaint, as Starcraft 2 matches can also potentially last for 40-ish minutes if you're not "rushing". If what you look for is a quick casual time-filler between other life activities then it' probably not the kind of game for you (at least the multiplayer side). I guess it depends how you see AOE : if you see it as a competitive activity like the other eSports i mentionned, or like chess, or even like actual sports (which have even much longer matches) then i think there is no pb. Sure those are different genres, but people dont have a pb comiting to 1 hr games (and the comitment is stronger, because you cannot just give up, since those are team games with penalty for leaving early). For example in mobas, or in tactical FPS, matches are longer than that. It's longer than starcraft, but shorter than many other competitive games. In both cases it's more on your side.Įven those are not necessarly long durations, it all depends what you compare it too.
If most of your games last 35-45 minutes, you are probably either doing something wrong, or have a playstyle leaning heavily towards long games.
